The Emory Healthcare RN Reentry Program provides an educational experience to support the return to hospital nursing for the nurse who has not practiced in the acute care setting for four or more years. The program provides 100 hours of self study and classroom presentation and 200 hours of supervised clinical practice on a medical-surgical unit.

Participants are hired to work on a nursing unit at Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Emory University Hospital or Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital. Time is spent each week in the classroom and in supervised clinical practice with a nurse preceptor on the hiring unit. The program is offered twice annually in the spring and fall and is eight weeks in length.

Program Requirements

  • Georgia RN license or temporary permit
  • Previous bedside nursing experience in the hospital setting
  • Commit to the hiring unit for a minimum of one year (full time) or two years (part time)

  • Is this program available at other hospitals?
    This program is available only at Emory Crawford Long Hospital, Emory University Hospital or Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital.
     
  • What is the salary?
    The salary for the program is the base RN salary. Upon successful completion of the program, the salary is adjusted based on the individual’s previous experience.
     
  • What clinical area would I likely be hired for?
    Reentry nurses are usually hired for patient care areas where they have previous experience. These clinical areas include general medical-surgical, cardiology, renal, neuro, OR, PACU, oncology, maternity and orthopedics. Areas such as ICU or emergency room are generally not included in the program.
     
  • What work shifts are available?
    Work shifts are likely to be 7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m., 7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m. or 11:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m. and include some weekend shifts.
     
  • When is the next program?
